In the early 20th century, Jacob Rutstein and his wife Bessie arrived in New York with little more than grit and a belief that every family deserved a dignified place to call home. An immigrant, Jacob began his journey in the trades—working in demolition, cleanouts, and salvaging wood from torn-down buildings. Through grit, vision, and integrity, he rose to become one of Brooklyn’s most influential affordable housing developers.

More than a century later, we carry that same mission forward. At The Redstone Group, “Rutstein” in German means Redstone—and today, The Redstone Group stands as a continuation of that legacy: affordable housing built on a foundation of integrity, care, and community.
